The very first broadcast, even though it wasn't ("The Swimming Pool" was), since "The Swimming Pool" just had Fred and Barney fighting like they became famous for (and doing stuff that their inspirators, The Honeymooners, couldn't do as live action!), or so ABC (and Winston?) thought, so "TSP" was held over the next one".;
Strangely, unlike many other Flintstone episodes (and indeed unlike ANY other prime time shows..) except for the one where Fred and Barney, playing on tyhe very reason for "The Swimming Pool"'s delay, say "THe girls will think we're riighting" ("Tue Houseguests"?), only the four stars (Al Reed, Mel Blanc, Jean Vanderpyl, and Bea Benaderet), participate, and few are featured. Famous for the Barney as janitor gag. A summar (and a first for THIS blog, doing it in the comments so as nowt to crowd up the enbtry..)THis uses the usual trope of Barney doing somehting that Fred found, er, KOOKY..inventing the above, which Barney proudly calls the Barney copter (Eggbeater, as Fred sarcastically implies, would be the best name for this contraption.) .
Their experiments take Fred in the air, only he falls down, injured..or is he,.they want to bowl, but then use injuries and an excuse, so the classic "sneaking out on their wives" trope's used as our boys fly this eggbeater to the bowling alley, only for the wives to find them, hence the classic Barney posung as strnage janitor scene (due to hanitor broom's easily removable straws), and the famous scene where Blanc, for the first time, does as he did in many theatricals, fake an acce nt:the now iconic "Take a POWDER..get it." Fred and Barney "f;y back, with the girls catching them in bed...(because they egg-beat them back...get it? Sorry..) and the two are okay, till Barney unintentionally gives is all away, with "TAKE POWDER"(using that like somehting Blanc would do on radio back in the day.) Naturally, they're chased out, escaping on that machine.
Michael Maltese & Warren Foster wrote this and a lotta early Flstones episodes. Again, like the Houseguest (where, during a leaky Rubble home's repairs) where Betty and Barney stay at our star couple's house, only Mel, Bea, Alan, and Jean play the characters.
